Privacy Policy

Effective April 15, 2026  ·  Cameron Franke
Actual News is built on a single premise: your attention is worth respecting. That philosophy extends to your data. We collect the minimum required to run the service. We don't sell it, share it for advertising, or use it to manipulate you. This document explains exactly what we collect and why.

Who we are

Actual News is developed and operated by Cameron Franke, an individual developer based in California, USA. References to "we," "us," or "our" mean Cameron Franke.

What we collect

In short

Your Apple-assigned user ID, the email you share via Sign in with Apple, and basic usage events that tell us whether the app is working. Nothing else.

When you sign in using Sign in with Apple, Apple provides us with:

When you use the app, we log:

Story tap events are used to surface content you're more likely to find interesting higher in your feed. We record only whether you tapped — not how long you read, how far you scrolled, or anything else.

We also collect basic crash and error information when the app encounters a problem — device type, iOS version, and a stack trace. This is handled internally and is not shared with any third-party crash reporting service.

Why we collect it

In short

To authenticate you, manage your subscription, and know whether the app is actually useful.

We process your data for these specific purposes:

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating and improving Actual News.

Third-party services

In short

RevenueCat handles subscriptions. Railway hosts our servers. Apple handles authentication. That's the full list.

RevenueCat — manages subscription purchases, receipt validation, and entitlement status. RevenueCat receives your Apple user ID and purchase history. RevenueCat is SOC 2 Type II certified and does not sell user data. RevenueCat Privacy Policy

Railway — hosts our API server and database. Your user ID and usage events are stored on Railway's infrastructure in the United States. Railway Privacy Policy

Apple — handles Sign in with Apple authentication. Apple's handling of your identity data is governed by Apple's privacy policy. Apple Privacy Policy

We do not use any advertising networks, behavioral analytics SDKs, or data brokers. We do not share your data with any party not listed above.

Data retention and deletion

In short

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account from within the app at any time.

To delete your account, go to Settings in the app and tap "Delete Account." This will remove your account data from our systems within 30 days. Subscription management and cancellation is handled through your Apple ID settings.

International data transfers

We are based in the United States. If you are located in the European Union or another jurisdiction, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Our service providers (RevenueCat, Railway) maintain standard contractual clauses or participate in applicable transfer frameworks to lawfully transfer data.

Your rights

In short

You can access, correct, export, or delete your data. EU users have additional rights under GDPR. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

We do not sell your data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not share your data with data brokers.

The app does not track you across other apps or websites. No ATT (App Tracking Transparency) prompt is shown because no tracking occurs.

Children's privacy

Actual News is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.

Do Not Track

We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Since we do not engage in cross-site tracking, these signals have no material effect on our data practices — we don't track you regardless.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you via an in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the app after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
